Sudden Cardiac Death: 3D Imaging Reveals Possible Cause

Oct 06, 2025

CRC1425 researchers, in collaboration with the Italian National Research Council, have identified a possible trigger for sudden cardiac death in young, seemingly healthy individuals. Using advanced 3D imaging in animal models, they found that hidden scar tissue in the heart can silently disrupt electrical signals—posing a serious risk during physical or emotional stress. These findings may shed light on previously unexplained cases and improve early detection in at-risk patients, and were recently published in Nature Cardiovascular Research, and is also featured on the issue’s front cover.
